Plugins for Profit

It’s time to get your blog ready for business by installing Plugins for Profit!

In a recent blog we talked about the plugins that would be important for the security of your blog…your main business asset.   Today we want to talk about plugins that will increase traffic to your blog, monitor the traffic, fix issues that cause you to lose sales, make your site look better to keep readers on the site longer, etc…  Thus they are plugins for profit! After all, you are in business to help people and get paid for the products and/or services you offer.

The plugins you decide to use will depend a lot on what your goal is for your blog.  Pick and choose those which fit your needs best.  You can use the list below or login to your admin panel of your site and go to the tab marked plugins and select add new.  You will have a choice of thousands listed as… Featured…Popular…Recommended…Favorites.  Of course you can go directly to WordPress.com or do a simple google search and come up with even more choices!

We would recommend you look at the star rating, the number of installs and if the plugin is compatible with your version of WordPress.  If the plugin is not compatible with your version of WordPress  it may really slow down your site.  If you click the link for more details you will find out more about the plugin, including going to the developer’s site, where you can get reviews and FAQ’s.  Installing, activating and deactivating is usually one click.  Some plugins will have additional settings–just read the instructions included.

Here’s a great video from YouTube with general instructions for installing plugins in various ways…

Add plugins as you need them.  Always update when you receive a notice to update.  One final caution, back up your site before adding a lot of new plugins…just in case something goes crazy!

Ok…here’s a few of my recommendations with a brief description.  You can type in the name of the plugin in the search bar under add new plugin and read more about it.

Yoast SEOYoast SEO – This plugin is the easiest all-in-one SEO solution for your blog.  It has an on-page content analysis, guides you through tags, keywords and meta description plus it gives you a little red-yellow-green light indicator of how good the SEO is on your site.

Jetpack by wordpress  The Jetpack plugin enables you to connect your blog to a WordPress.com account giving you use of powerful features normally only available to WordPress.com users.

Simple Share Button AdderSimple Share buttons adder / Shareaholic – either of these plugins make it easy to add share buttons to all of your posts and/or pages of your blog.

CommentLuv – This plugin encourages more comments and builds a community by rewarding your readers by automatically placing a link to their last blog post at the end of their comment.

Customer Facebook Feed – This plugin allows you to display completely customizable Facebook feeds of any public Facebook page or group on your website.

Pretty Link LitePretty Link Light – With pretty link  you can shrink, beautify, track, manage and share any URL on or off of your WordPress website. Create links that look how you want using your own domain name.

Broken Link Checker – This is especially good for blogs as often broken links pop up in comments left by your readers.  Google is not happy when your site has broken links!

W3 Total Cache – Easy Web Performance Optimization (WPO) using caching: browser, page, object, database, minify and content delivery network support.  Designed to improve user experience and page speed.

Compress JPGCompress jpeg & PNG images – Speed up your website. Optimize your JPEG and PNG images automatically with TinyPNG.

Sunday Motivation via Hurricane Katrina

A decade has passed since Hurricane Katrina.

Monday, August 29, 2005: The eye of Hurricane Katrina enters the mouth of the Mississippi River.

Winds clocked at over 100 mph are accompanying heavy rain, which is dropping as much as 2 inches of rain an hour.

Power is out throughout New Orleans. The region’s electricity system suffered catastrophic damage. Authorizes say it may be a month before power is restored.

The city’s 911 emergency system is out of service. The police department and Charity Hospital is on emergency power.

There’s significant flooding throughout the city. People are climbing into their attics to escape the flooding.

The roof of the Superdome, where thousands of New Orleans residents have sought refuge, is damaged and water is pouring into the building.

With water rapidly rising around his bungalow home a man somehow reached the police and said he and his dog planned to move to the second floor and pray.

These are some of the Hurricane Katrina dispatches posted during its first day on The New Orleans Times-Picayune’s website.

We since have learned:

Hurricane Katrina and the levee failures flooded 80 percent of the city and resulted in the deaths of at least 986 Louisiana residents, nearly half of them were over the age of 74.

The massive hurricane caused $135 billion in damages in the region. The costliest natural disaster the United States has ever seen. But the picture that’s burned in our psyche is the lack of planning by local and federal government that failed to protect the city with proper flood controls and to provide aid to displaced residents.

But people and organizations filled that vacuum. The National Guard, the Red Cross, groups from churches, schools, clubs and various volunteers all pitched in and provided help during the aftermath.

Take a look at some of the photos from Mashable of “then and now”…

Let us learn from the resilience of the people from New Orleans, that no matter how bad your situation is, you can pick up and start again!  Remember that if you have been discouraged with your business.  Don’t give up! Look for those folks that can help you and start anew!

Watch Your Words that Kill Success!

Do you use words that kill success, that lead to failure?

success-failure sm signFor our Sunday motivation today, we look at the impact of the words we choose.  The words we use can actually hold us back and potentially lead to us to failure or getting the things we do not want.

Have you ever found yourself saying…”That works for other people but it won’t work for me!”  Or what about this one… “That works for other people but my business is different!”  Jeff Walker discusses these exact words in his video below and gives you suggestions on what to do about it…

Awesome video Jeff!  My takeaway… Instead of saying “it won’t work for me,” look for a role model of someone you can follow.  Look at a business in a completely different niche and say what can I take from that model?

Colin Hiles toxic words sm

Chart by Colin Hiles from YouTube Video

Here’s another perspective from Colin Hiles.  He suggests thinking of our words like the steering wheel of a car…towards what we want or away from it.

He also says that the words we choose lead our subconscious mind, so instead of using toxic words that kill success, rather use suggested antidote words that will lead to our desired result.

Watch Colin’s video below to fill in those missing blanks, to find out about the toxic words that kill success and what you can say instead, using his antidote…

I will begin using the antidotes! What do you think? Please comment below!  We love to hear from you!

Procrastination to Productivity!

Post QSC procrastination appears to have hit many in the group.  Is that you?

We continue to use our QSC Facebook Group to share our latest blogs but the number has dwindled. Personally, I am motivated by the fact I want my blogs on the weekly list, yet, knowing myself like I do and the tendency to procrastinate, I decided the next step for me after the Quick Start Challenge was to find an accountability partner or coach, so I would not fall into the habit of procrastination.

I found the 30 day Productivity Challenge at boldproductivity.com, a program offered by Tina Williams.

PeriscopeMy first challenge with this new adventure was to sign up for Periscope and follow Tina on Twitter so I could be live with her #miraclemorning productivity scope.  Ah the dreaded technology!  An interesting thing occurred.  I was able to download Periscope to my phone and found my Twitter password.  When I got into Twitter I decided to follow individuals in various fields, like internet marketing, motivation, authors, health, law of attraction, tennis (that was the fun category for me) and low and behold I started getting these notifications that so and so is now following me!  I decided this is another avenue for me to get known so I sent out a few tweets and re-tweeted a few.  The hashtag thing is still confusing to me but like everything new, I will eventually get accustomed to it.

Somehow I did not get the notice this morning when Tina went live for her miracle morning so I had to listen to the replay.  For anyone who tends to procrastinate, I would recommend listening to this replay on Katch.  Tina says to overcome and beat procrastination, you need to know why you are procrastinating.  Here’s a recap of the “whys” she discusses:

  1. Being a Perfectionist (imperfect action is better than none!)
  2. Wrong project–should belong to another person (delegate!)
  3. You don’t know the Steps to complete project
  4. Lack of Interest in Project
  5. Can’t see the higher purpose of the Project
  6. Too Big of a Task (chunk it down!)
  7. You don’t have the right tool/knowledge

One of my favorite coaches, Dr. Janeen Detrick, once told me the following when I said I was having a problem with procrastinating… Procrastination is making a choice to do something else!  Now I understand “why” I am choosing something else!

This all ties in nicely to the Faith Based Training Call by Sean Mize that I listened to this week.  He pointed out that we may feel our spiritual life is good but if our business is not doing what we want it to, that we may need to start following God in our business – not just our life – and it will transform our business!  I tie this to #5 above, Can’t see the higher purpose of the Project…

If I am not helping people by what I am doing, then I simply do not want to do it!  That is my intent with this blog!  I want to provide information, motivation, products and services that will help people set up their blog and their business, and use blogging to share their product or service, that will in turn help people!

I thank you for taking the time to read my posts and I look forward to helping you in the future! As always, love to hear your comments!

Sunday Motivation – Power Affirmations

Do you start your day with power affirmations like 4 year old Jessica?

I had a wonderful weekend babysitting for my two granddaughters! It was so uplifting I decided to look for a video with children that might be inspiring for us as our Sunday night motivation.

Wow, I was surprised at the volume of videos with children out there! I like the one I chose of a little girl Jessica, only 4 years old, who blasts out power affirmations in front of a mirror!  Wait till you see it.  She exhibits so much enthusiasm and is bursting with positive energy!

What I thought was really great is there is a comment from Jack Canfield shared from Google+ on the YouTube page that says…

“This is awesome! What if everyone started their day like 4-year-old, Jessica? Strong positive affirmations are powerful means of self-transformation and they are a key element in the creation of the life you desire. Give it a try!”

Several years ago I participated in an outstanding program by Michael Penland called “Dare to Grow Rich.”  He introduced us to affirmations by giving us a mirror and while looking at our dominant eye chanted,  I am growing rich!  This program was not about money, but rather the mental  influences that shape our life perceptions and actions.

Ok, I hear you, enough with me!  Here’s Jessica…

If you use affirmations, please share a comment below!

Protecting Your WordPress Blog

Is your site at risk of being hacked? Protecting your WordPress blog is a must!

An incident with my husband’s smartphone this week has prompted me to write this blog. He discovered his android phone was susceptible to a bug called Stagefright. A Stagefright infected phone could allow an attacker to remotely control and steal data from your Android device.  The fix has now been installed.  Are you protected?

Whether you’re writing a blog for business or for fun, you need to protect your site and all your hard work.  Wordpress makes it easy to add functions to your website or blog with plugins.

Here are some recommended plugins that you should install to protect your asset.

Wordfence Security – Antivirus, firewall and high speed cache

Wordfence is a free plugin, although they offer premium plan with additional features. The free version works fine  Here are some of the important features:

  • Blocking features including  real-time blocking of known attackers, firewall protection of IP’s or entire networks, blocking crawlers & scrapers
  • Login Security with two-factor authentication
  • Security Scanning for the HeartBleed vulnerability, malware & phishing threats, backdoor threats, trojans and other security issues
  • Firewall protection
  • And more! If you want to know all the nitty gritty including a video on the importance of protection, you can find it at their site: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence/

Here’s a YouTube video I found that shows you how to install Wordfence including the common settings and also how to scan for potential threats.  It makes it nice and easy with music to calm you!

UpdraftPlus – Backup and restoration made easy. Complete backups; manual or scheduled (backup to Amazon S3, Dropbox, Google Drive, Rackspace, FTP, SFTP, email + others)

You never know… the day may come when your site gets hacked, or maybe when your hosting company gets hacked or goes out of business!  If you do not have good backups, you stand to lose everything.  Install a reliable back up option!  Here’s how to install UpdraftPlus:

Akismet, Antispam Bee and WP Spam Shield, – These three plugins protect your blog from comment and trackback spam.  You can also add a CAPTCHA of some sort to prove you are human but these plugins block the spam without the inconvenience to the visitor.  Watch these videos to help on the installation…

If you are writing a blog you want to encourage comments from real people–like you! If you learned something about protecting your wordpress blog from this post or would like to add something of value, we would love to hear from you!  Please post a comment below!

Sunday Motivation – Brendon Burchard

“We must sustain hope in order to continue the march toward our dreams”–Brendon Burchard.

Some people in the QSC group felt disappointed this past week when they were not able to participate in the iPro Partners Program…maybe even you.   Maybe you had some other disappointments and challenges during the week.  We can not let these disappointments and challenges stop us from achieving our dreams and goals.  Brendon Burchard, one of the top motivation and marketing trainers in the world, says we need to sustain hope.

Our Sunday motivation this week is an outstanding video by Brendon discussing how to sustain hope to achieve our dreams.  He makes a great analogy…a power plant doesn’t have energy, it transforms and generates energy.  Similarly, we don’t have happiness, sadness or hope, we generate those emotions.  If we are not generating hope and happiness we have to charge ourselves up just like we plug in the phone to charge it up.

So how do we charge ourselves up with hope?  Brendon covers the 4 “P’s”…

  1. Perspective…Your challenges are small when you realize there are 7 billion people in this world.  Focus on some of the positive energy out there.  Expand your awareness, stroll outside in nature, watch people enjoying themselves, remember when things went well and realize you had strength then and believe you can do it again!
  2. Plan…You need a plan and your vision that will keep you going, even when you are frustrated.  In those frustrating moments you can chose to direct your focus to achieve your plan.  Sit down tonight with paper and pen and write down all you want to achieve, create, give, attract.  This is your  hope page.  Don’t forget to include all you are grateful for! Write down the steps to achieve these dreams.  If you fall on one of the steps, write a new step to get you back on track!
  3. Persistence…Don’t sit on the couch eating potato chips! Take charge of your life.  Do 3 things every day that will move your life forward… ready, study, talk to people, write, etc.  Say yes to what puts you closer to your dreams and so no to the things that won’t.
  4. Patience…You may feel like you’re always rushed and have nothing…but you do. Realize what you have and be patient with yourself and with the people that you work with.

You can get Brendon’s book, The Charge for free at TheChargeBook.com and continue the motivation.

And you can go enjoy this video of Brendon Burchard as he speaks freestyle, filmed in one take without prompter or notes! (Ah, remember when we all made our videos back in week 2 of the QSC!)

Did this video motivate you? Please share your comments below!

The Quick Start Challenge Bonus Call

Some people did not take the Quick Start Challenge Bonus Call as a bonus!

When I woke up Tuesday morning my in box was lit up like a Christmas tree, full of notifications of comments in the Quick Start Challenge 3 Facebook group.  Monday night had been the Quick Start Challenge Bonus Call that we were all anxiously awaiting for.

Dean Holland (with Craig Crawford and Robert Phillips) went through in detail the entire sales funnel process that has made them millions of dollars.  He also offered us a position in his iPro program that automates a lot of the sales funnel process and gives you an opportunity to earn commissions on auto pilot, including $1000 for the upsell on coaching made via his telephone staff.  Now this is not their private process, it’s used by all the big marketers out there (like Frank Kern, and Tony Robbins!) Here’s what the funnel looks like…

QSC Funnel

I was expecting that we would be offered some program to continue our new business that we started with the Quick Start Challenge.  The iPro system makes perfect sense.  After building up the system on a very long 3 hour call, we wanted this… But it was the price that got the group extremely disappointed and got the comments going in our facebook group. For it appears, the majority of folks neither the full or split pay option was manageable.

Well, I am disappointed that I can’t pay a monthly amount for this great system, but we DO have the steps and we CAN start making money and down the line we may be given the opportunity to apply for the program.  In the meantime, I would like to share a snippet of some suggestions that Ozer Tayiz, of OzerTayiz.com made for those not joining the iPro Partners System…

Here are a few ideas, to earn that $2000, and be able to afford IproPartners program:

  • Use the the methods you have learned in QSC to make affiliate income of $2000.
  • Use the skills you have gained with QSC. Offer services to others. You can now set up a wordpress blog, customize a theme and header image, setup an opt-in form… There are many people out there who have difficulty doing all those tasks. I bet you could setup a service of offering this kind of help to others, for anywhere between $47-97 for sites that you set up. Here, there is a web course about doing just that (not an affiliate link, and I don’t know if the course is any good or not).
    https://www.udemy.com/how-to-make-a-website-in-wordpress/
  • You may build niche affiliate web sites, that generate free traffic, build an opt-in list, and make profits, and then sell the site as an income generating asset. On Flippa, those sites flip for 1-3 years worth of net income. On Empire Flippers, profitable sites are sold for 20x their monthly net income all the time. You only need to build a web site that generates $100+ in monthly profits, then flip it…
  • You may offer your skills to “offline” brick and mortar clients. Now that you have a marketable skill, of building a blog, generating free traffic, building a mailing list, you can offer your services to a business for maybe $1000/m or more. A plastic surgeon, attorney (or law firm), financial adviser, or any other highly paid professional may gladly pay you money to outsource his online marketing for you.
  • You can create your own products. I had a difficulty setting up an opt-in form on my wordpress blog for the first time. It took me 15+ hours, when I tried the first time. Then after I learned it, I can now do it in less than an hour. I can create a product “How to setup an opt-in form on your wordpress blog in 60 minutes or less” as an ebook and offer it as a WSO for $5 or whatever. Then maybe a webinar while I do it live for $10, a done-for-you service for $50… It could quickly add up. I am sure there are many skills you learned in the QSC that has some value to someone who doesn’t know how to do that.

I think you get the idea. There are multiple ways to raise that kind of cash, with what you already know.

You can read the full post at OzerTayiz.com.  I want to wish great success for those from Quick Start Challenge 3.0 who joined iPro Partners and for those who could not join at this time, I also wish great success as we continue to support and help each other!  And finally, I want to thank Dean Holland, Craig Crawford and Robert Phillips for the Quick Start Challenge 3.0!  It has been a great month and a great beginning!

Top 10 Books to Motivate You!

Inspired by a posting in our QSC Facebook Group started by Keith Reilly of Straight Talk for Success I decided to search for the top 10 books to motivate you for this week’s Sunday Motivation.

Keith made a very good point… mindset plays a big part in success.

I did various searches including 10 inspirational books to motivate you, 10 business mindset books to motivate you, 10 books to motivate you, etc…  I say thank you to these authors for supplying some good info and came up with my own list, which you will see substantiates  the point that Keith Reilly made…mindset is not only a very big part of success, it is required for success!  (By the way, the book Keith is reading is not on this list but it’s a great book also… “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki.)

So just like David Letterman’s TOP 10…  The Top 10 Books to Motivate You…

#10… The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller

This book is about choosing your one thing in all areas of your life (professional, personal and spiritual) and focusing on that one thing alone. “It is those who concentrate on but one thing at a time who advance in this world.”

#9… Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers

This book is about using your fear to your advantage.  “By reeducating the mind, you can accept fear as simply a fact of life rather than a barrier to success.”

#8… The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

This book is a story about a young boy following his dreams who learns that there are others along the way who can and will help you.  “When you really want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

#7… Awaken the Giant Within by Anthony Robbins

This book is about how to take immediate control of your mental, emotional, physical and financial destiny.  “If you can’t, you must. If you must, you can.”

#6… As a Man Thinketh by James Allen

This book is about how your thoughts mold your personality, and how that personality drives you to take action and determines the type of action you’ll take.

#5… Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson

This book is about the simple ways to keep the little things from taking over your life.  Gotta love this quote… “Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness.”

#4… The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale

The book is a practical guide to mastering the problems of every day living and that by being optimistic you will more likely succeed.

#3… The Magic of Thinking Big by David J Schwartz

This book is about how to acquire the secrets of success and achieve everything you’ve always wanted…by dreaming big!  Side note here…favorite quote to inspire your children… Shoot for the Moon… Even if you miss, you’ll land among the Stars!

#2… The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz

This book is about the key to high performance and personal renewal is not managing your time but managing your energy!

#1… Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

This book is how Napoleon Hill discovered the common thought processes and behaviors of millionaires that led them to their success.  It is the forerunner of all the Law of Attraction books out there today.  “All the breaks you need in life wait within your imagination. Imagination is the workshop of your mind, capable of turning mind energy into accomplishment and wealth.”

So there you have it, my top 10!  Please comment below and add your favorite motivational or inspirational books!

After I did the above list, I said I wonder if David Letterman did an actual Top 10 on the subject.  I couldn’t find one but I found an article by the International Business Times from May 20, 2015 that listed some of David Letterman’s most memorable quotes and I decided to pick a few that fall into the category of motivation…

  • “There’s only one requirement of any of us, and that is to be courageous. Because courage, as you might know, defines all other human behavior. And, I believe — because I’ve done a little of this myself — pretending to be courageous is just as good as the real thing.”
  • “I have found that the only thing that does bring you happiness is doing something good for somebody who is incapable of doing it for themselves.”
  • “There is no off position on the genius switch.”
  • “Anything worth doing is worth overdoing.”
  • “If it weren’t for the coffee, I’d have no identifiable personality whatsoever.”
  • “If what you’ve done is stupid, but it works … then it really isn’t all that stupid.”
  • “I’m just trying to make a smudge on the collective unconscious.”

Thanks Dave!   PS…Don’t forget to comment below!David Letterman pix

QSC Week 4 – Update

It’s hard to believe that we are at QSC Week 4 already!

The week 4 call gave an excellent overview, giving us the foundation and basis of what our highly successful internet business should look like.  Dean Holland called it The Internet Lifestyle!  Here it is in a nutshell…

The Internet Lifestyle

The Internet Lifestyle

So what’s included in this successful internet business (how do we make $$$!)…

  1. Membership site with monthly recurring income as an affiliate. There’s lot’s of offers out there.  Some good places to start are  Clickbank, JVZoo and Warrior Plus.
  2. Recurring income offers as your offer or an upsell to your offer, for example, hosting or autoresponders.
  3. Offers built into your autoresponder email sequence or broadcast email to all your subscribers.
  4. Thank you page trick…since the only page you can guarantee that your subscribers will open is the thank you page for your free opt-in, consider it prime real estate!  Put the front end (low cost) offer to your sales funnel on the thank you page.
  5. Banners on your blog, links in your blog posts, affiliate links in your opt-in giveaway, solo ads, etc!!!

So for our official assignment/challenge after the QSC Week 4 call… was kind of a let down because we were not given anything we had to do that we had to report on, but at the same time was kind of exciting, as we were all invited to a special BONUS call next week, where tons of prizes are going to be awarded! WOW!  Of course, Dean cautioned us that we need to continue doing what we have been doing and start adding in some of the ideas talked about on the call today.

Almost forgot, the winner of the Week 3 Challenge (1. sign up for an autoresponder, 2. find something of value to give away, 3. create an opt-in form, squeeze page or pop up to give away the free gift) was announced….

And the winner is…… Shane Dolby from ShaneDolby.com!  Congratulations Shane for winning the iPro Platinum Partner and coaching program!

UPDATE…  What did I get done this week?

In spite of a computer virus and malware issues that knocked my computer down for a couple of days, and a busy week doing insurance appointments, here’s what I got done this week…

  • I finalized all my legal pages
  • I added a Tools page for some of my recommended resources
  • I got approved for my first affiliate from Commision Junction (CJ) – BlueHost!
  • I put a banner on the side bar of my site as well as on my Tools page for BlueHost
  • I added a link in my email sequence for BlueHost
  • I have requested approval for several other affiliate products
  • I posted comments on half a dozen blogs and commented in the QSC facebook group

That’s it for now! Come back Sunday night for some Sunday night motivation!
