Watch Your Words that Kill Success!

Do you use words that kill success, that lead to failure?

success-failure sm signFor our Sunday motivation today, we look at the impact of the words we choose.  The words we use can actually hold us back and potentially lead to us to failure or getting the things we do not want.

Have you ever found yourself saying…”That works for other people but it won’t work for me!”  Or what about this one… “That works for other people but my business is different!”  Jeff Walker discusses these exact words in his video below and gives you suggestions on what to do about it…

Awesome video Jeff!  My takeaway… Instead of saying “it won’t work for me,” look for a role model of someone you can follow.  Look at a business in a completely different niche and say what can I take from that model?

Here’s another perspective from Colin Hiles.  He suggests thinking of our words like the steering wheel of a car…towards what we want or away from it.

He also says that the words we choose lead our subconscious mind, so instead of using toxic words that kill success, rather use suggested antidote words that will lead to our desired result.

Watch Colin’s video below to fill in those missing blanks, to find out about the toxic words that kill success and what you can say instead, using his antidote…

I will begin using the antidotes! What do you think? Please comment below!  We love to hear from you!

  1. Hello Barbara

I loved the first video, did not watch the second as at 12 minutes it is just too long when I have time deadlines to meet.

Jeff is absolutely correct, all too often we talk ourselves into a problem rather than into a solution and his tip to look outside our markets is a brilliant way to learn new approaches whilst at the same time expanding our horizons.

Hello Igor…thanks for checking out Jeff’s video. Agree with his suggestions. I understand your time constraints. Maybe next time I will make a two part posting rather than putting two videos in one. If you do get a moment (maybe skip the pasttime you mention in your recent post, Where is your Passion) the second one is excellent. BTW, your posting was excellent too…made me think!

    Hi Barbara
This is something that has such an impact on our daily lives, yet so few of us are aware of the thoughts and words that affect our path to success (or failure). I was interested to hear/see Colin’s Antidote words, so watched both clips even though it was a little long…

Hi Duane, The impact of our words is amazing. How many times we wish we had not said something. I was tempted to just summarize Colin’s antidotes but I thought maybe people would not watch the video then. Glad you watched it and hope it was helpful! Speaking of helpful, you make some excellent suggestions regarding affiliate marketing in your recent post on How to make money with affiliate marketing.

    Hi Barb,

There’s a saying that “what you see is what you get”, but this I’ll say… “what you say is what you get”. The power of tongue, small as it seems but it has the power to control like a ship or boat’s rudder, it can make you or break you. This applies to all areas of our lives.
The bible says in Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruits.
So, we should be careful what comes out of our mouth.

Hi Cory, I love that you quoted scripture and how true it is! I believe we get all the instruction we need right from the bible…if we would only read and apply it! There are several extremely successful online marketers that run their business with guidance from God and often quote the bible. Speaking of online marketing, your posting on the history of internet mareketing (intro to internet marketing) is extremely interesting…like watching your child grow up!

  4. Hi Barb,

Words have power, and the words that come out of your mouth will come true for you, whether they are positive or negative words!

Also, the words that come out of your mouth can never be retracted – we need to be so careful about what we say and to who we say it.

Right you are Fernando–both in business and personal life! One thought that comes to mind is when someone gets into an argument and they blurt out something like “I hate you” or “I’m gonna kill you”…only to say I’m sorry later, wishing they had not lost their temper and said something they didn’t mean.

      Hello, Fernando

You are so right … the words that come out of our mouths can never be retracted. I’ve found the Power of Forgiveness also works wonders …. forgiving MYSELF/OURSELVES first and foremost!

Nice post and better Video. This is a great inspirational post. Words are powerful because they work in the subconscious of are mind, which means your mind is working on these things while you are sleeping. So yes, I try to practice positive thinking and speaking in all aspects of my life and business. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Art, thanks for taking the time to check out Sunday Motivation. You are so right regarding our subconscious mind…better that we give it positive vibes! Now I am going to re-inforce one of the key antidotes for the toxic word…try! May I suggest instead of trying to practice positive thinking, say I will or I do practice positive thinking!

    • Susette says:

      Hello, Art

You are so right about the power of words in our subconscious mind, even while we are sleeping!

It takes just 21 days to change a habit, so practice your positive thinking and speaking in all aspects of your life and business for just 3 weeks …. and you are a changed man, haha!

      To your amazing success,

  6. Keiran says:

This is so true. The title to Jeff’s video doesn’t say what the five words are, and I wondered what they might be. He’s definitely right about his choice of the words that will stop you. I find myself reading about all sorts of online business models and immediately thinking of reasons not to follow the process because “it wouldn’t work for me”. I’ve done this a number of times, only to see people who started after me becoming successful by doing something I didn’t think would work.

    • barbschallenge says:

Hi Keiran…you are right, Jeff does not specifically say what the five words are but my “assumption” is one of the following:

      1. “that works for other people”
      2. exactly what you mention in your comment… “it wouldn’t work for me”

Your observation about seeing people becoming successful by doing something you thought wouldn’t work is so true! It’s happened to me and probably to most people. The cure in most cases… take action! You actually confirmed this in your recent post, My First Solo Ad Campaign! Thanks again for your comment!

    Hello, Barbara
I love your videos. Frankly, I abandoned listening to the 1st one, but listened to the 2nd one all the way to the very end.

Definitely going to watch those 4 toxic words, and use the antidotes instead!

  8. You’re right Barb, words can be incredibly powerful things, they can raise you up but they can also grind your face in the mud. I find it a great pity that so many people give power to toxic words and allow them to disrupt their lives when they have the power to choose not to be affected by them, but such is life, we can condition our minds with positive words or we can choose to let words condition our minds for us. One of the great things about having a site like this is that we can help to condition the minds of our visitors to think positive and be positive. Happy writing 🙂
